The FamilyHealth Center (FHC) was recently awarded federal grant funding and designationas a Section 330 FQHC grantee. This designation will allow FHC to expand accessto care, increase its financial stability and serve more patients and families, regardless of their ability to pay.

Established in1965 by President Lyndon Johnson, FQHCs (Federally Qualified Health Centers)are federally funded nonprofit organizations that serve medically underservedpopulations and areas. FQHCs provide care to all patients, including those withlimited financial resources or without insurance, often using a sliding feescale based on income.

“For the pasteight years, the Family Health Center has operated as a Lookalike FQHC,consistently meeting the rigorous operational, clinical, governance and qualitystandards required of federally qualified health centers, but without receivingdirect Section 330 grant funding,” stated Jennifer Emmons, President and CEO.“Our organization’s commitment to quality care and excellence made thispossible. This award enables us to transition from look-alike status tobecoming a Section 330 grantee so we can continue our work in reducing barriersto health care access. This is a truly remarkable milestone, and I am so proudof our team for working together to achieve this designation.”

With this recent grant award, the FHC will continue to grow its operations and serve more patients. Plans are already in place for growth in Martin county, along with other initiatives to help increase access to healthcare.
